The web address for your event, survey, or meeting request form starts with www.cvent.com and ends in a row of random characters. Not memorable enough? Rename it by upgrading to a custom URL or a private domain.

With a custom URL, you can pick any name you want but .cvent gets tacked on the end in Classic events, and .cventevents gets tacked on the end in Flex events. The advantages are: it's quicker and easier to set up and you can use the same name as your organization's primary website.

Choose a private domain to remove Cvent from your URL entirely, giving you almost complete authority over what goes between the www. and the .com. There are, however, some restrictions. You must first purchase the domain name from a web hosting service, such as GoDaddy, iPage, or bluehost. Then, you'll need to configure a Canonical Name record to associate the address to your website and approve the SSL Certificate, which lets visitors know your site is "safe."

While you have more control with a private domain, you also have fewer options because you can't buy a domain name that already exists. For example, since the Thurman College Alumni Association is already using www.ThurmanAlumni.com for their association website, they can't use it for their Cvent site or it will reroute everyone trying to get to their association's site. A single address can't link to two places.

But there is a way around this. You can add a word before the domain name and separate it with a period. This is called a subdomain.

NOTE: Your private domain must include either the prefix www. or a subdomain of your choice. Without it, your web address will not work.

Once you have an idea of which option you want, give your account manager a call for pricing information.

NOTE: The process can take anywhere from 10-14 business days to fully implement in your account.
