How do I fix the "Registration for this event is not available" error message?

This error message appears when your privacy settings prevent someone from registering. It’s usually found when you’re trying to test the event or by invitees once you’ve launched. Try the solutions below to make sure registration is available to the right people. 
 
NOTE: Trying to change what the error message says? You can do so by customizing event-wide text.
  
Make your Standard Registration event public
Allow anyone to register, not just those you've added to the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Settings.
3 If applicable, select a registration path.
4 The Basic Settings tab opens by default. Click the neighboring tab, Identification & Security.
5 Click Edit.
6 Click Anyone (Public) beside "Registration is open to."

7 Click Save. Have multiple registration paths? You will need to repeat this process for each one.

Make your Flex event public
Allow anyone to register, not just those you've added to the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Process.
3 If applicable, select a registration path.
4 Click Open Site Designer.
5 Click on Personal Information in the top-left to open the Registration Page navigation menu.
6 Click

7 Scroll down to the Privacy Settings section and set "Who can register for the event?" to Open to the public.
8 Click Apply.
9 Click Save to save your changes and continue editing, or Publish to make them available to invitees. Have multiple registration paths?

3 Click Edit and scroll down to the Advanced Settings section.
4 Switch "Registration is open to" to Anyone (Public).

Update your invitation list
Your event is private and you, or the person trying to register, is not on the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Promotion & Communication and, under Email, click Invitation Lists.
3 If applicable, select an invitation list.
4 Hover over List Members and click Quick Add.
5 Enter their name and email and click Add.

Adjust your registration limits
Your registration may be restricted by IP address or email domain. Ensure the invitee has what it takes to pass or remove the limits altogether. 

 
NOTE: This feature is only available in Classic events.

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Settings.
3 If applicable, select a registration path.
4 The Basic Settings tab opens by default. Click the neighboring tab, Identification & Security.
5 Click Edit.
6 Click Do not limit beside "Limit registration by," or, make sure the registrant's IP address or email domain are allowed.

7 Click Save. Have multiple registration paths? You will need to repeat this process for each one.

Check the invitee's contact record 
Accounts with a setting called "Contact Match Key" enabled require that invitees enter their name and email exactly as they appear on the invitation list.   

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Invitee Management and, under Manage, click Invitees & Registrants.
3 Find the invitee.  
4 Have them try again, matching their name and email exactly to what's in your invitation list.

Ensure the source ID is matched to a contact record
If you're identifying invitees by source ID, they must be linked to a record in your Address Book.    

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Invitee Management and, under Manage, click Invitees & Registrants.
3 Find the invitee and click their name.  
4 Hover over Actions. If "Go to Contact" is greyed out, click Close and follow the remaining steps. If not, try another solution. 
5 Hover over the User-added image to the right of their name and click Remove from Event...

6 Click Confirm.
7 Click Contacts in the upper right.
8 Click Create Contact.
9 Enter their name, source ID, and email.
10 Click Save.
11 Back in your event, hover over
Invitee Management and, under Quick Action, click Add Invitee.
12 Enter their name and email and click Add to Event.

13 Have them try again, matching their name, source ID, and email exactly to what's in your invitation list.

Ensure the custom fields match when using a custom process in Classic events
If you're assigning registration types using a custom process, the custom field answers in the event must match the custom field answers in Admin. Also, if an invitee does not fit the custom process criteria, they will also receive this error message.

1 Select your standard registration event.

3 Select a registration path, if necessary.

If you're identifying invitees by source ID, they must be linked to a record in your Address Book.    

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Invitee Management and, under Manage, click Invitees & Registrants.
3 Find the invitee and click their name.  
4 Hover over Actions. If "Go to Contact" is greyed out, click Close and follow the remaining steps. If not, try another solution. 
5 Hover over the User-added image to the right of their name and click Remove from Event...

6 Click Confirm.
7 Click Contacts in the upper right.
8 Click Create Contact.
9 Enter their name, source ID, and email.
10 Click Save.
11 Back in your event, hover over
Invitee Management and, under Quick Action, click Add Invitee.
12 Enter their name and email and click Add to Event.

13 Have them try again, matching their name, source ID, and email exactly to what's in your invitation list.

Ensure the custom fields match when using a custom process in Classic events
If you're assigning registration types using a custom process, the custom field answers in the event must match the custom field answers in Admin. Also, if an invitee does not fit the custom process criteria, they will also receive this error message.

1 Select your standard registration event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Settings.
3 Select a registration path, if necessary.  
4 The Basic Settings tab opens by default. Click the neighboring tab, Identification & Security
5 Scroll down to the Personal Fields section, and review which custom fields are associated to the custom process and their answers.

6 In a new tab, click Admin in the top-right.
7 Review your custom contact fields, internal information answers, and contact group memberships to ensure they match the responses within your event.

This error message appears when your privacy settings prevent someone from registering. It’s usually found when you’re trying to test the event or by invitees once you’ve launched. Try the solutions below to make sure registration is available to the right people. 
 
NOTE: Trying to change what the error message says? You can do so by customizing event-wide text.
  
Make your Standard Registration event public
Allow anyone to register, not just those you've added to the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Settings.
3 If applicable, select a registration path.
4 The Basic Settings tab opens by default. Click the neighboring tab, Identification & Security.
5 Click Edit.
6 Click Anyone (Public) beside "Registration is open to."

7 Click Save. Have multiple registration paths? You will need to repeat this process for each one.

Make your Flex event public
Allow anyone to register, not just those you've added to the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Process.
3 If applicable, select a registration path.
4 Click Open Site Designer.

7 Scroll down to the Privacy Settings section and set "Who can register for the event?" to Open to the public.
8 Click Apply.

Make your Express event public
Allow anyone to register, not just those you've added to the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Click Event Details in the blue navigation bar.
3 Click Edit and scroll down to the Advanced Settings section.
4 Switch "Registration is open to" to Anyone (Public).
5 Click Save.

Update your invitation list
Your event is private and you, or the person trying to register, is not on the invitation list. 

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Promotion & Communication and, under Email, click Invitation Lists.
3 If applicable, select an invitation list.
4 Hover over List Members and click Quick Add.
5 Enter their name and email and click Add.

Adjust your registration limits
Your registration may be restricted by IP address or email domain. Ensure the invitee has what it takes to pass or remove the limits altogether. 

 
NOTE: This feature is only available in Classic events.

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Website & Registration and, under Registration, click Registration Settings.
3 If applicable, select a registration path.
4 The Basic Settings tab opens by default. Click the neighboring tab, Identification & Security.
5 Click Edit.
6 Click Do not limit beside "Limit registration by," or, make sure the registrant's IP address or email domain are allowed.

7 Click Save. Have multiple registration paths? You will need to repeat this process for each one.

Check the invitee's contact record 
Accounts with a setting called "Contact Match Key" enabled require that invitees enter their name and email exactly as they appear on the invitation list.   

1 Select your event.
2 Hover over Invitee Management and, under Manage, click Invitees & Registrants.
3 Find the invitee.  
4 Have them try again, matching their name and email exactly to what's in your invitation list.

Ensure the source ID is matched to a contact record
